Why It Works

It is a way to get up high enough to see a panoramic view of the famous St. Louis Cathedral, Cabildo, Presbytere and Pontalba Houses surrounding Jackson Square.

What Makes Artillery Park a Great Place?

It is a node that is linked to the Mississippi River (Moonwalk), historic Jackson Square and its pedestrian promenade that surrounds it. Also, it is linked to the historic French Market and onward to Latrobe Waterworks Park that is within the French Market.

This is primarily a pedestrian area that fronts on a street. Seating is mainly on the amphitheatre steps, but crowds usually stand to watch the performances or to photograph the great view of the historic Jackson Square complex.

Crowds typically occupy the space for photography and performances that occur often.

People generally are in the area for a good time, New Orleans style. It is a happy place for all types of people.
