Firstly, it's a State law that each secondary school have a library. But, if the schools in our neighborhood are looking for academic success, they need a library. Lauren Barack reported in the 3/6/12 issue of School Library Journal: "According to new research from Library Research Services, which reviewed standardized test scores from Colorado schools in 2005 and 2011, reading scores statistically increased when schools retained or gained a school librarian. 'There is a positive and statistically significant relationship between advanced reading levels and endorsed librarian staffing trends'...what we know from this study and its predecessors is that the research on school librarians and their association with students' test scores is remarkably consistent in its findings: regardless of how rich or poor a community is, students tend to perform better on reading tests where and when, their library programs are in the hands of endorsed librarians."
