About the Opening Plenary:
The Placemaking Week opening plenary, set the scene for what placemaking in Baltimore is all about. This included a welcome from Project for Public Spaces and the Neighborhood Design Center, conversations and presentations about Baltimore past and present, and a performance from Nia June to start the conference off right before a day of breakout sessions.
About the Conference:
Project for Public Spaces’ 4th International Placemaking Week conference was held on June 5–8, 2024, in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, and was co-hosted by the Neighborhood Design Center. Placemaking Week is a multi-day, global gathering of over 600 public space leaders that emphasizes hands-on learning, off-site exploration, and innovative social events, all while leaving behind a public space legacy in host cities. Embracing a wide variety of sectors and disciplines, the event creates a dynamic forum for attendees to develop and share concrete strategies to advance community-powered public spaces, both locally and globally.
About Project for Public Spaces:
Project for Public Spaces is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that brings public spaces to life by planning and designing them with the people who use them every day. Voluntary contributions of any size go toward transforming public spaces into vital places that highlight local assets, spur rejuvenation, and serve the common good.
