Join Project for Public Spaces’ Board of Directors

The Board of Directors of Project for Public Spaces is currently seeking individuals to serve on its board in a volunteer capacity. Project for Public Spaces is a nonprofit organization that seeks to bring public spaces to life by planning and designing them with the people who use them every day. Our knowledge, skills, and strategies equip people to fuel lasting change.

The Board of Directors has identified a need for at least three individuals with knowledge and expertise in one or more of the following areas: Financial Planning & Oversight, Nonprofit Legal, Public & Media Relations, and Fundraising.

Commitments:

  • Strong belief in the Project for Public Spaces mission
  • Presence at our quarterly board meetings
  • Active participation on the board and board subcommittees
  • Attention to and oversight of the organization’s annual operating budget
  • Participation in Project for Public Spaces events and fundraising efforts
  • Staying informed about matters concerning Project for Public Spaces, sharing relevant opportunities and news with your network, and advocating for its work
  • Working with fellow board members and to complete any assignments thoroughly and on time
  • An estimated 15-20 hour annual commitment to board work

Preferred Financial Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in financial management (CPA, finance degree, investment banking background, or equivalent experience)
  • Understanding of nonprofit accounting principles, regulations, and financial reporting
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills

Preferred Public & Media Relations Qualifications:

  • Strong relationships with journalists and media outlets focused on urbanism, lifestyle, food and beverage, tourism, news, general interest, and other related beats
  • Demonstrated experience with creatively translating nonprofit programs into pitches that make news

Preferred Legal Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with nonprofit law, labor law, or related fields

Preferred Fundraising Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated board experience in development and participation in successful fundraising strategies for non-profit organizations
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with prospects, donors, sponsors, and funding agencies
  • Experience in planning, coordinating, and executing fundraising campaigns
