A museum built in the heights of Quito.

What makes it Great?

Why it doesn't work?

Guayasamin had been carrying out his greatest and most ambitious project: La Capilla del Hombre (The Chapel of the Man) before his death. This chapel is an architectural space built in the heights of Quito. It has a series of murals, a memory referring to the American man, from the pre-colonial world, passing through the Conquest and the Colonial Era, up to the contemporary "mestizaje" of America. The chapel provides guides who can explain to you the meaning of many of the paintings: this is a monument of the American man. By the way, other places that we can see from the viewpoint of the chapel are the GonzÕ_lez SuÕ_rez neighbourhood, Quito Hotel, Pine forest and Oriental Avenue. This is a place internationally known because of the famous painter Oswaldo Guayasamin who a few times represented our country abroad. In this place, there was a very important contest that was "Todas las Voces, Todas" celebrated here in Quito in 1996, with more than 90 singers and musicians.

Access & Linkages

You can take a bus, it is San CristÕ_bal and goes along Amazonas Avenue until the bus station. Or, for your security, take a taxi cab, which will leave you at the door of the chapel.

Comfort & Image

This is a safe and clean place, the floors and the walls are neat. There are people that are always maintaining the chapel. Outside is GuayasaminÍs house, where he lived and where his ashes are too.

Uses & Activities

This is one of the most important places to visit because the paintings show us how the Indians lived and felt in America in that epoch.

Sociability

Generally, people go in groups because they want to know how the wonderful paintings are, together, also they want to feel how the indigenous were and felt that time.

How Light?

How Quick?

How Cheap?
