Urban Sculpture Garden \nURLS:\n http://www.citygardenstl.org/
Approximately 3 acres of landscaping featuring native species, over 20 sculptures, fountains and reflecting pools including a spray plaza with 102 pulsating jets of water up to 10 feet high, 6 rain gardens to collect and filter storm water from 2/3rds of the site's surface, green roofs, a glass-walled cafe, and a maintenance building integrated into the native limestone arcing wall which connects the two city blocks of the site.
Vehicular traffic is permitted on the site perimeter, with 9th street closed off for pedestrian access only. Citygarden is sited on an east-west axis which includes the Carl Milles fountain "Meeting of the Waters" to the west and the Gateway Arch to the east. Various offices and civic buildings rim the perimeter.
Citygarden forms a pedestrian oasis in a dense urban setting. Seating surfaces are abundant, from low walls and benches to pieces of sculpture. It's a "hands on" place to visit, with visitors encouraged to get wet in the fountains and pools. Children can be seen climbing on some of the sculptures. Landscaping will be maintained by the world-renowned Missouri Botanical Gardens.
The usage is very mixed, with office workers, families with small children, retirees, and tourists all making use of the varied spaces within the park. Photographers are common.
Ratio of visitors to locals is unknown by this submitter, but will probably increase in the summer months. Busch Stadium, Union Station, the Gateway Arch are nearby popular tourist attractions which will attract visitors to this highly visible location.
