Fundidora Park was built where the CompaÕ±Õ_a Fundidora de Fierro y Acero de Monterrey was located, a company dedicated to the production of iron and steel. It was the first such company in Latin America, opened in 1900 and closed in 1986. Fundidora Park opened its doors in February of 2001 and has been called "Fundidora Park Industrial Archeology Place Museum" because it includes buildings and structures that are part of the history of the beginning of industrialization in Mexico. The Park is 114 hectares and is located in the center of the City of Monterrey, and is 200 kilometers from the Texas border. Inside Fundidora Park are the Center of Conventions and Expositions (Cintermex), Thematic Park (Plaza Sesamo), two five-star hotels, the Fundidora Auditorium (for the international artists presentation), three museums (Center of the Arts) and the Arena Monterrey, which has the capacity for holding 17,000 spectators. The Park includes 11.5 kilometers of corridors, sources, a lake of 2.5 hectares, a natural spring, 52 hectares of green areas and more than 13,000 trees of native species. In the Park each year is a race of Cart (Campionship Car Racing Team) which is an international level event. Approximately 4.5 million people visited the Park during the year 2002.

The accesses to arrive at Fundidora Park are excellent, and are easily seen from all angles. There are five entrances available, four of which can be used by both cars and people and one by people alone. The visitors arrive to the Park by car or on foot, by bicycle, roller skates, or scooter. People also arrive by public transportation, the bus or the subway; there are stops and stations just a few meters from the Park entrances. It is important to mention that entrance to Fundidora Park is free.

The visitors that arrive to the Park for the first time get a very good impression. The green areas and corridors are appreciated immediately because they require magnificent maintenance and cleaning. It is the most important urban park of northern Mexico. Inside the installations, there is very comfortable furniture; wooden tables and chairs designed and approximately 600 waste baskets area available for comfort of the visitors. The disabled can make use of the ramps that are located throughout, and also can travel through the Park in trams. A team of guards qualified to attend the visitors are on duty in the Park. There is also one nurse, medical and ambulance services in case of emergency and a closed circuit security system.

The Park is visited daily. The busiest times are mainly early in the morning and in the afternoon. People come to enjoy sports activities such as jogging, biking, roller skating, etc. On weekends a lot of families visit during the day to do these same activities and, of course, picnic. They also visit the museums or the Plaza Sesamo Park.

It is common that we have visitors of different kinds and ages. A great many arrive in groups. The people that attend by themselves are the people that come to do some individual sport activity. We also have groups that come to perform training in different disciplines. We have daily school visits, in which we enjoy the happiness of the children, with their great energy running, laughing and playing together in an open place with their friends. Bicycles and skates are available for rental, which increases sociability among our visitors because many of them like to do common activities and enjoy the opportunity to play together. It has become a point of tourist interest. It is common to hear people talk proudly of Park Fundidora to family visitors from other cities in Mexico.

Its extraordinary appearance and visual contrast is produced by the extensive green areas in combination with the industrial buildings, which are old red brick. Most of them were built between 1903 and 1920. The structures of ovens and chimneys made of steel and brick, as well as the old machinery, are distributed as a museum in an environment among the gardens, which let the visitors take a walk with the family and jog in a very pleasant open space.
