A beautiful state park in the Uwharrie Mountains.

What makes it Great?

Why it doesn't work?

Located in the ancient Uwharrie Mountains in North Carolina's piedmont, Morrow Mountain is one of our state's most beautiful state parks. The Uwharries (including, Morrow, Sugarloaf, and Hattaway mountains) make for some challenging hiking with scenic views of the surrounding area, while Lake Tillery and the Pee Dee River provide opportunities for fishing and canoeing. The park also boasts the 19th century home site, office, and greenhouse of Dr. Francis Kron, the first physician in the area. Overnight camping sites, cabins, a swimming pool, and large picnic shelters are other features that make Morrow Mountain a wonderful place to visit for the day or for an extended vacation.

Access & Linkages

Nearby residents and people from across the state and the country visit Morrow Mountain. A ranger station and museum provide people to answer questions and maps for visitors.

Comfort & Image

The park is closed from 8 pm to 8 am, to assure the safety of campers. The park is clean and the facilities are well maintained.

Uses & Activities

Although the park is widely used, it is large enough that it rarely feels crowded. With so many options for activities and so many acres of nature to explore, it is easy to be alone, even when the park is busy.

Sociability

Morrow Mountain is a wonderful place for a family picnic, a reunion, and even a wedding.
